The more information we can glean regarding the incident, the better context we can provide to the support staff that will be working towards resolution. Not all items in each checklist will necessarily be relevant, as some items are geared specifically towards performance and access issues.
Client network
Please gather as much information as possible about the networks involved with the incident. This can help to pinpoint the appropriate area of focus and ultimately help to form a plan of resolution for the issue. This is most relevant for issues revolving around performance and access.
Proxy, firewall, and VPN
Please provide as much detail as possible, and as much detail as allowed, for your network security topology involved with the issue.
- What kind of Proxy, if any, does your office network use?
- Are all applications directed through your proxy, or just browser traffic?
- Is there a common definition of exceptions for bypassing proxy that can be modified?
- Is the proxy load balanced with multiple geographic locations and / or end points? If so, is it possible to direct all Application traffic through one proxy?
- What kind of Firewall, if any, does your office use for accessing external resources?
- Is all web traffic directed through this firewall?
- What kind of exceptions can be made for accessing this firewall?
- What kind of VPN, if any, is used when accessing the application outside of the office network?
- Is there a different set of rule sets for any proxies or firewalls that are traversed when accessing external resources through the VPN?
Office network

- Please run the speed test from www.speedtest.net and provide the results to DFIN.
- Are there any periods of the day that have a pattern of slowing of throughput?
- Are there any periods during the week or month that have a pattern of slowing of throughput?
- Are there any processes running on schedule that could attribute degradation of network performance
Client workstation
In order to quickly rule out a wide variety of potential variables of the issue at hand, we need to gather as much information as possible about the environment in which the issue occurs. For that reason we have provided a detailed checklist of questions and information points that will provide a good overview of the computers involved.
Hardware profile
Please provide as much detail as possible about the affected computers’ hardware.
- Are the computers used Desktops or Laptops?
- What specific model or models of laptops or desktop computers are used to access the application?
